Nobody talks on phones anymore

Today at lunch time I learned a new skill, posting photos to Facebook from my new phone. I’ve been following Facebook on the phone since I got it, about a month ago, using Babbler, an Android Facebook client.

As I sat in the park “learning” how to use this feature of my new “Google” phone, it occurred to me that I don’t talk on my phone nearly as much as I used to, or nearly as much as I use the other features of the phone. I use my phone more for

  • email
  • web surfing
  • reading RSS feeds
  • following Facebook
  • reading ebooks
  • playing Solitaire and other little games
  • sending text and instant messages

than I do for talking.

When I look around on the Metro on the way to and from work, or at Juan Valdez coffee shop at lunch time, everybody around me has their BlackBerries, iPhones and similar devices in their hands, not next to their heads.

Nobody talks on the phone anymore.

This is a good thing, because you don’t have to listen to their conversations in a public place either.
